Porter Health Care System has announced the addition of Interventional Cardiologist, Fahd Syed, M.D., M.P.H, F.A.C.C. to Porter Physician Group. Sean Dardeau, Porter Health Care System and Northwest Indiana Market Chief Executive Officer announced that Dr. Syed has begun treating patients. The Cardiology office is located at the Medical Plaza on the Porter Regional Hospital Campus in Valparaiso and has satellite offices at Portage Hospital and in the heart of Valparaiso at Valparaiso Medical Center. Dr. Syed, has joined the medical staff at Porter Regional Hospital, where he will perform complex cardiac procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, mitral valve repair, ASD/PFO closure, valvuloplasty, coronary angioplasty, stenting, and provide catheter-directed therapy for pulmonary embolism.
Dardeau, remarked, “Dr. Syed comes to us from Cornell Heart Center at New York Presbyterian Hospital. His experience and training add to the strength of our interventional cardiology team, helping us serve more individuals throughout Northwest Indiana. The growth of our cardiovascular program has been remarkable and we continue to assemble a team of experts to meet the needs of the region.”
After receiving his medical degree from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals Dr. Syed completed a Masters of Public Health at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He performed an internal medicine residency at the University of Arkansas, a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Alabama and a fellowship in interventional cardiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Cornell Heart Center. He is board certified in internal medicine and he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Syed shared that he chose Porter Physician Group because of the breadth and depth of the cardiac program at Porter Regional Hospital and the team of cardiovascular specialists in the group. His areas of interest include Coronary Artery Disease, Chest Pain, Angina, Heart Attack, Atrial Fibrillation, Mitral Valve Prolapse, Valve and Structural Heart Disease, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, weight and sleep cycle disorders, pulmonary hypertension management, women’s health and pregnancy related cardiac conditions, and cardio-oncology.
