Breast Cancer Support Group – Hope & Healing
Porter Regional Hospital offers Hope & Healing, a support group for people coping with breast cancer, whether newly diagnosed or a long-term survivor. The group offers emotional support, information, education, and guest speakers. It also provides the opportunity for individuals to share their unique concerns and feelings brought on by breast cancer. The Hope & Healing Support Group will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Liberty Bible Church (Fireside Room, Entrance C), 824 N. Calumet Ave in Chesterton. Lung Cancer Support Group
If you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group to provide a safe and open environment to share your experiences and struggles, and connect you with local and national resources to aid during your time of need. Meetings are open to anyone affected by lung cancer, including survivors, family members, friends and caregivers. The next meeting will be from 11 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. No registration is necessary. Diabetes Support Group
Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for awhile, it is important that you take care of yourself to reduce the chance for complications later on. Eight times a year, Porter Regional Hospital hosts a support group where a variety of topics are discussed and shared, and a nurse educator or dietitian will be on-hand to facilitate. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. For more information, call 219-263-7992.
Ostomy Support Group
Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group for ostomy patients. The group helps patients learn from others, share concerns and talk with one of the hospital’s certified wound ostomy and continence nurses. Held on a monthly basis, the next meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso. Stroke Survivor Support Group
Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group for stroke survivors, their caregivers, family members and loved ones. The monthly gathering offers an environment to share experiences and struggles, as well as connect with other survivors and local resources. The next meeting will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24 at Porter’s Education and Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. For more information, call 219-983-8355.
