Porter Regional Hospital Volunteer Receives Honor

Marianne-DimosPorter’s Volunteer Coordinator Marianne Dimos was recently named “Outstanding Volunteer” by Northwest Indiana Business Quarterly magazine.

Dimos has served as a volunteer at Porter for nine years, the past seven of those serving as volunteer coordinator of 175 volunteers. She also is in charge of arranging job shadowing opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.

Dimos came to be a volunteer at Porter after receiving treatment at the facility for heart-related issues. “I felt comfortable and safe and well taken care of,” she said. “I made up my mind that I would try to help Porter any way I could.”

Having experienced the patient-side of the hospital, Dimos strives to inspire her volunteers to help recreate that safe environment she felt during her time receiving treatment. “We are there to provide them with the feeling that Porter is like their home,” she said.

Before becoming a volunteer, Dimos worked in a variety of positions over the years, including magazine writer, restaurant operator, teacher, commercial realtor, and more.
