Porter-Starke Services Presents “Suicide Prevention and Intervention”

On Tuesday, July 20, Porter-Starke Services will host its Learn @ Lunch series with an informative education lecture entitled, “Suicide Prevention and Intervention” from 11:30- 1:00 PM at Porter-Starke Services, located at 701 Wall Street (Entrance C) in Valparaiso. Mike Hofmann, LSW, Director of Admissions & Emergency Services at Porter-Starke Services and member of Northwest Indiana Suicide Coalition will be the featured speaker. learnatlunch

Suicide is the 11th ranking cause of death in this country and the 3rd leading cause of death for the young. This training will cover suicide statistics as they relate to populations that are at risk for suicide. Also the warning signs of suicide and how to intervene effectively when someone is contemplating taking their own life. The intervention piece of the program will cover how to get help from someone who is looking for help voluntarily versus not wanting to get help when they are suicidal and the legal areas outlining the difference between a 24-Hour Hold versus a 72-Hour Detention. Seating for this Learn @ Lunch is limited.

Porter-Starke Services Learn @ Lunches are monthly educational seminars featuring informative and practical mental health and wellness topics. Seminar locations rotate between Valparaiso, Portage and Knox and are open to the general public as well as clinicians and educators. Mental Health American of Porter County offers 1.5 Continuing Education Credits for $5.00.
