Porter Township School Corporation Weekly Update: February 10, 2014

nelgdevSnow Day Make-Up Days

I'm sure you are as ready as I am for the flowers to start popping up through the snow, although I'm pretty sure we still have many weeks to wait. As you will see in our "Important Dates" section of the Weekly Update, the current plan is to use April 21st as a make-up day and then the remaining three snow days will be tacked on in June.

The Indiana Department of Education Friday afternoon released some guidance to school corporations on additional ways we could look to make up our lost instructional time. This is guidance provided as we are having a catastrophic winter--so these additional ways to make up time are only good this year through the end of June. You can read one article about this idea that was published in the Indy Star. I read an article last week in the USA Today about other states using e-learning days to eliminate lost instructional time for students.

We have used online days for the past five years at BGMS and BGHS that are part of our school calendar--so the idea of an online day for a snow day or a snow make-up day has been a topic of discussion at PTSC.

We want to hear your feedback. Watch your inbox in the next couple of days (and make sure your email is in Instant Alert) for a link to a survey. This will give you the opportunity to provide us with essential information and feedback. We will use this feedback to help craft our decision for how to structure our snow day make-ups this year. Thanks in advance!
