PTSC Standouts:
Choir: Congratulations to the PTSC choir students who competed in the ISSMA Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest at the state level this Saturday. The eight soloists and 4 ensembles each earned gold medals. That means that Boone Grove brought home 88 gold medals which is the most gold models brought home in Boone Grove history! Great job--that's a lot of hard work!
Wrestling: Austin Kukulski earned Academic All State Honorable Mention and Zach Keilman earned 1st Team Academic All State at Heavyweight. Well done!
JV Boys' Basketball: Congratulations to the PCC JV Boys' Basketball Champions pictured above!
Northwestern Indiana Science and Engineering Fair Results: Four Boone Grove High School students competed in the 61st Northwestern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Valparaiso University on Saturday, February 22. Our students earned four of the top awards and three will advance to the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis on April 5 where they will compete for a chance to advance to the 65th International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles California. The students participating and the 18 awards earned are as follows;
Abigail Marek: President’s Award – Best project in the regional fair, $2500 renewable scholarship to Valparaiso University, $1000 cash prize, invitation to compete in the state science fair, MSEED Award from Valparaiso University - $25, Purdue University School of Agriculture - $50, and US Air Force – Most Outstanding Project. This will be her second trip to the state fair and the fifth straight year that one of our students has had the top project at the regional fair.
Mckayla Tucker: 2nd Place - $ 1000 renewable scholarship to Valparaiso University, $75 cash award, invitation to compete in the state science fair, MSEED Award from Valparaiso University – 1st Place - $50
Megan Parpart: 3rd Place - $1000 renewable scholarship to Valparaiso University, $50 cash award, invitation to compete in the state science fair, US Air Force Award - Most Outstanding Project, Instrumentation or Automation Technology Award - $50
Emma Awdey: Honorable Mention - $25, Chemistry and Biochemistry Award - $50
As reported by BGHS parent, Mr. Parpart, "There is no doubt that Mr. Snow deserves applause. Boone Grove students’ projects were head and shoulders above the competition. This cannot happen without a caring teacher." I couldn't have said it better myself. Great job to all!
BGHS Drama: I hope you had a chance to make it out for one of the shows the past two weekends. Great job to the entire cast and crew--it was laugh out loud entertainment! I can't wait to see the next production!
Empty Bowls: Great job by students and staff putting on the first ever "Empty Bowls". If you didn't have a chance to make it this year--watch for it in future years! Great work and beautiful bowls!
Important Dates:
- February 26, 2014: Kindergarten Round-Up for Porter Lakes Elementary There will be three parent/child meeting sessions, 9:00 – 10:00, 11:00 – 12:00, and 1:00 – 2:00. Parents are asked to phone the school to reserve a space in their preferred session. Spaces are limited, please phone early. Parents may reach the school at 219-306-8076, extension 5000. Children that will be 5 years of age before August 1 should enroll in kindergarten. Parents should be prepared to bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of residency to the session.
- April 21, 2014: Regular day of school–snow day make up day for January 8, 2014
- June 2, 2014: Regular day of school–to make up for our snow day on January 27, 2014
- June 3, 2014: Regular day of school–to make up for our snow day on January 28, 2014
- June 4, 2014: Regular day of school–to make up for our snow day on February 5, 2014
Things to Know:
- Every Wednesday is a 30-minute delayed start. If we have a 2-hour delay, students will arrive at school 2 hours after the regular start time for the building.
- Now hiring substitute teachers! Please contact Linda Dusek at the administration building if you are interested in substitute teaching and she will help you start the application process and discuss qualifications.
- We are also looking for bus drivers to drive our extra-curricular runs. If you are interested, please apply online.
