Power of Youth Battle of the Bands

The United Way of Porter County's Power of Youth Council will be hosting a county-wide high school Battle of the Bands at Valparaiso University's ARC on February 20th, 2010 to raise funds and awareness of the increasing teen drug and alcohol abuse problem.

The Power of Youth Council's goal is to raise funds which will be given to youth-serving programs in Porter County that focus on prevention and early treatment of teen substance abuse.

Porter County Indiana ranks higher than the state average in teen alcohol and drug abuse— an on going and growing issue according to the Epidemiological Report created by Porter-Starke Services with the help of the United Way of Porter County and Valparaiso University.

One band from each school will be chosen to compete in the Battle of the Bands. The winning band will receive a prize package comprised of donations from various companies throughout Porter County.

The Battle of the Bands is being sponsored by the United Way of Porter County, Porter-Starke Services, Inc., The Porter County Sheriff's Department, Transient Media, Willowtree Recording Studio and Chuck Mudd.
