Purdue Calumet Athletics Releases 2014-15 Winter Promotional Schedule

PUC-PeregrinsWith the 2014-15 men’s and women’s basketball season fast approaching, Purdue University Calumet has released its promotional schedule for what the Peregrines aim to be another exciting winter sports season on the hardwood.

Before basketball season kicks off, the Peregrine volleyball team will host its annual Dig Pink event Oct. 30 with its home matchup with Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Calumet College of St. Joseph. Peregrine volleyball will honor breast cancer survivors prior to the contest, sell special pink jerseys to raise money for the local Susan G. Komen Foundation, and the first 100 Purdue Calumet students will receive free earbuds courtesy of the Multicultural Campus Council and free pizza from Corporate Champion Papa John’s of Hammond.

In honor of the spooky holiday Halloween, students are encouraged to dress in costume for the Peregrine women’s basketball team’s 5 p.m. season opener against Viterbo. The game will also feature the unveiling of the banners for 2013-14 squad that captured the CCAC Championship and reached the Sweet Sixteen of the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history. Stick around for halftime activities as students can compete in a Costume Contest for special prizes.

Friday, Nov. 7, the men’s basketball team opens the regular season against AIB College starting at 7 p.m. Before the game, check out the Homecoming Tailgate co-sponsored by Student Activities with free food and t-shirts to the first 100 students beginning at 5 p.m. At halftime, Student Activities will be honoring a homecoming king and queen.

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Purdue Calumet and the International Students Programs Office will team up to welcome all Peregrine students from abroad to attend the first basketball double header of the season and as the women’s and men’s team competes against Olivet Nazarene University starting at 5 p.m. Free Papa John’s pizza will be available to the first 100 fans.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, bring your kids to a special day featuring the Peregrines’ annual Kids Day paired with the Building Community Through the Arts (BCTA) program’s Hoosier Hoop Dreams event. Prior and during the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader against Holy Cross, bouncy houses, face-painting, visiting mascots, t-shirt painting, and the honoring of historical Hammond sports heroes will all be available. Did we mention all kids get in free?

Kick off the New Year and come honor America’s military with the Indiana National Guard as Purdue Jan. 3 starting at 1 p.m. as the women’s basketball team takes on Clarke and the men’s team faces Indiana Northwest. Free t-shirts will be provided to the first 100 fans in attendance.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, help Purdue Calumet raise money for cancer prevention and a cure by attending the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event during the men’s and women’s team doubleheader against Roosevelt. Papa John’s pizza will also be available to the first 100 in attendance.

On Saturday, Jan., 24, the Admissions Office co-sponsors the women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch starting at 1 p.m. to honor all students who have committed to becoming a Purdue Calumet student with Future Peregrine Day. Social media will be in full effect Wed., Feb. 4, as fans using the #PeregrineNation hashtag will earn special prizes during the men’s and women’s twin bill against Roosevelt.

Come out and honor the 2014 Purdue Calumet Hall of Fame Class on Saturday, Feb. 7, when the basketball teams host a doubleheader against Indiana South Bend.

Valentine’s Day will be a big day for Purdue Calumet women’s basketball seniors, as the squad will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Feb. 14, in the first game of a doubleheader against St. Francis.

The men’s team will honor its seniors a week later on Saturday, Feb. 21 in single game against Purdue North Central, when Athletics teams up with Alumni Affairs to welcome all alumni of both Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central in nod to the ongoing unification process of Purdue Northwest.
