Purdue Calumet Drops Road Match at St. Francis (Ill.)

PUC-PeregrinsThe Purdue University Calumet women’s soccer team ran into a tough St. Francis squad in a 7-0 road loss Tuesday.

The Peregrines fell to 7-9 overall and 3-6 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference with the loss.

St. Francis (8-7, 6-3) struck early in the sixth minute with Lisa Rueda’s goal off a Alex Truhlar cross and didn’t slow down on the offensive end , leading 3-0 at the break. Reuda finished with two goals and five different players recorded the remaining scores for the Fighting Saints, who outshot Purdue Calumet 26-9.

Senior Caytin Lewin (Plainfield, Ill./Benet Academy) led the Peregrines with three shots, one on goal. Sandra Lozano (East Chicago, Ind./E.C. Central), Kacey Lilly (Santa Cruz, Calif./Scott Valley) and Julia Kusiak (Munster, Ind./Bishop Noll) added shots on goal for Purdue Calumet.

Junior Erika Brinkman (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida/Owens C.C.) recorded nine saves in 90 minutes in the setback, while USF’s Gabriela Ramirez was credited with the saves for her play in the first 45 minutes. Teammate Jessica Kiely added four saves in final half.

The Peregrines return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, for their final home match of the season with a 1 p.m. matchup at Munster High School where they will honor their three seniors: Lewin, Rachel Shmagranoff, and Isabella Parrilli.
