Purdue Calumet Men’s Hoops Falls to UIC in Exhibition Contest

PUC-Mens-Hoops-Falls-to-UIC-in-Exhibition-ContestThe Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team lost in a hard fought battle to Div. 1 opponent the University of Illinois-Chicago Tuesday night in an exhibition match-up at the UIC Pavilion.

Junior guard LaBradford Sebree (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-14 from the field while connecting on four three-point field goals.

Senior big man Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) notched 12 points and six rebounds while Andis Malahovskis (Cesis, Latvia/Cesis City) recorded eight points and four rebounds.

After the Flames took an early 11-5 lead, Purdue Calumet would answer with a small run by Sebree, which put the Peregrines within 1, 15-14.

UIC would try to pull away for the entire first half, but the resiliency shown by the Peregrine squad refused to go down without a fight, trailing the Flames by four, 32-28 with less than seven minutes left in the opening half.

The Black and Gold hung with UIC for the remainder of the period, heading in to the break down 10 points, 51-41.

The Peregrines would jump start the second half on a 12-14 run to get within two points, 55-53 with 14 minutes left in the second period.

Both teams would continue to answer each other’s runs for the rest of the game, until UIC pulled away in the final minutes to come away with the 91-74 victory over the Peregrines.

Purdue Calumet will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec.30 when they host non-conference opponent Marygrove University at 7 p.m. (CT).
