The No. 11-ranked Purdue University Calumet women’s basketball team wasn’t able to overcome visiting Olivet Nazarene University’s high-scoring offense in a 127-11 conference loss Tuesday at the Fitness and Recreation Center.

The Peregrines (6-2, 2-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to the Tigers – NAIA Division II’s scoring leader at 110.8 points per game – for the first time since the 2012-13 season in offensive-minded contest, which featured 90 made field goals on 202 attempts from the field.

Five players reached double-figures for the Peregrines, led by 24 points and 13 rebounds for junior Cassidy Deno (Otterbein, Ind./Benton Central), who added five assists.

Sophomore Ellie Michalksi (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) had the first double-double of her career with 15 points and 13 rebounds, sophomore Katie Wampler (Scottsburg, Ind./Scottsburg) had a career-high 21 points and nine boards, freshman Michaela Kikendall (Morristown, Ind./Morristown) had a career-high 18 points and eight boards, and junior Dariyan Morris (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) added 17 points, six boards, and five assists for the Peregrines.

The Tigers (6-1, 3-0) led the entire way, jumping out to an 18-0 lead in the first quarter with a blistering start from 3-point land, as ONU opened 4-of-5 from behind the arc. For the game, Olivet Nazarene dominated from deep, making 17-of-48 (35.4 percent) compared to 7-of-20 (35 percent) for Purdue Calumet.

Purdue Calumet trailed, 79-45, at halftime, but the Peregrines’ defense regrouped in the second half, holding ONU to just 48 points and 34.7 percent shooting from the field after allowing a 52.7 percent (29-of-55) clip in the first half.

ONU still led by 28, 106-78, entering the fourth quarter, but the Peregrines were able to cut that lead to 15, 123-108, after a three-point play the old fashioned way from Deno and a Kikendall triple. But time ran out on the host, as the Tigers came away with the 16-point victory.
