The Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer team battled with St. Ambrose University on the road Wednesday, and ended with a 1-1 draw in double overtime.

The Peregrines (10-2-2, 6-2-1 CCAC) tied the Fighting Bees (6-7-1, 4-4-1 CCAC) at the Davenport Soccer Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Towards the end of the first half, Saint Ambrose recorded the first goal of the match on a corner kick from Ross Hendry to Michael Ohioze who notched his ninth goal of season to give the Fighting Bees a 1-0 advantage heading in to the break.

The Peregrines would answer back in the 78th minute, after a pass from Zac Doepke (Troy, Mich./Troy) to senior forward Papa Otoo (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River), who found the back of the net to tie the match 1-1.

That would be all the scoring for the rest of the match, as both teams stopped any offensive chances for the remainder of regulation and both overtime periods.

Sophomore keeper Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) recorded eight saves in 110 minutes in the draw.

The Peregrines outshot the Fighting Bees 17-16, with Nico Monteiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, IBMEC) leading all players with six shots, three of them being on goal.

The Peregrines return to action Saturday, Oct. 24, as they host CCAC opponent Holy Cross at Dowling Park’s Pepsi Field at 2:30 p.m. CT.

Purdue Calumet Sweeps PNC 3-0 in CCAC Road Win
The Purdue University Calumet volleyball team completed the season sweep of conference rival Purdue North Central with a 3-0 road victory Tuesday at LaPorte Civic Auditorium.

Three Peregrine players reached double-digit kills to lead Purdue Calumet (8-18, 3-9 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference) past the Panthers (5-21, 2-10) in a 27-25, 25-23, 25-22 victory.

Sophomore Gabrielle Martin (DeMotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) and freshman Jenna Pasko (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) each tallied 11 kills and sophomore Carissa Jones (Hammond, Ind./Bishop Noll) added 10 kills to lead a trio of Peregrine offensive leaders.

Jones hit a team-best .304 and had a double-double with 11 digs, while senior teammate Akeelah Muhammad (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township) added six kills on a .286 attack percentage and four block assists.

The Peregrines dominated at the net, recording a whopping 22 block assists and 13 total blocks – both season highs. Pasko (nine digs) and sophomore Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County) each had seven block assists and Martin (eight digs) and Muhammad added one solo block each.

Setter Carley Bartolini (Chesterton, Ind./Portage) dished out 37 assists and eight digs in the match.

All three matches were tight, as a Muhammad solo block sealed the match in Set 1 after PNC battled back from a 22-15 deficit to force it to 27. Purdue Calumet jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set behind three-straight kills from Martin, Jones and Elsea before PNC again made up the deficit to tie at 7 and again at 11-all.

With the Peregrines leading, 24-23, Muhammad again ended it with a kill to capture Set 2. Purdue Calumet trailed for the beginning of the third set, 11-5, before making a comeback of its own with a 8-2 run to knot the score at 14-all. Three late kills by Martin and another by Pasko – plus two attack errors from PNC to end it – helped seal the Set 3 win.

Taylor Mullen led the Panthers with 11 kills and 11 digs, Cami Webster had 17 digs and Abbe Mullen totaled 29 assists to lead the Purdue North Central in the setback. Caylyn Bellar added three block assists and Robin Osmolski had two solo blocks for the Panthers at the net.

Wednesday night is also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, as the Peregrines offer free admission to all Purdue Calumet faculty and staff members.
