Purdue Calumet to Celebrate Founders Day February 25, 2015

PUC-LogoThe end of World War II brought soldiers home to resume their lives and build their futures. It also prompted Purdue University to introduce credit courses in the Hammond area, beginning Feb. 25, 1946.

Courses initially offered at various nearby locations soon spurred development of a Purdue campus in Hammond’s Woodmar neighborhood.

The visionary individuals who played key roles in the establishment of Purdue University Calumet—campus founders—provide inspiration for the university’s annual celebration of Founders Day.

Many campus activities
This year’s event—Wednesday, Feb. 25—marks Purdue Calumet’s 69th birthday. It will feature a myriad of campus activities.

“The founding of Purdue University Calumet is an event in which we take great pride celebrating,” University of Strategic Events Manager Sheryl Corey said. “A variety of events has been scheduled that we hope will bring together our campus, alumni and nearby communities.”

Opening remarks by Purdue Calumet Chancellor Thomas L. Keon and the announcement of winners of the Campus Spirit Door Decorating competition will kick off the celebration at 11 a.m. in Calumet Falls of the Student Union & Library.

Games, food, pep rally
Subsequently, a photo booth, trivia, video games, bean bags, ping pong and laser tag are scheduled until mid-afternoon. Mr. Pierogi, a Purdue Calumet alumnus, will visit between noon and 3 p.m., handing out his edible namesake.

The university’s Fitness Center will be open all day at no charge for campus guests. Prior to the evening’s Purdue Calumet women’s basketball team conference tournament game, a pep rally and pizza party will be held in the Fitness & Recreation Center.

Limited edition T-shirts
Limited edition, throw-back T-shirts also are on sale for $10 on a first-come, first-served basis from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at these campus locations:

Monday, 2/23—Student Union & Library, Calumet Falls;
