Health-care providers and facilities in northwest Indiana can learn about electronic medical records and meeting federal meaningful use standards during a Tuesday (Feb. 22) program hosted by the Indiana Health IT Extension Center (I-HITEC) and The Times of Northwest Indiana.
Allison Bryan, field operations manager for I-HTEC, will present information on electronic medical records (EMR) and meaningful use. Bryan will review the government's meaningful use criteria, discuss Medicare and Medicaid incentives, and identify best practices for meeting the standards. I-HITEC staff will be on-site to answer questions and address issues related to EMR adoption and meaningful use.
I-HITEC, funded by a $12 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant, provides direct technical assistance to help health-care providers achieve meaningful use and receive federal incentive money.
The program will be from 8-10 a.m. CST in the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville. It is free, and a buffet breakfast will be served. U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., will make remarks. Bill Masterson Jr., publisher of The Times, will give the welcome.

I-HITEC is part of Purdue's Healthcare Technical Assistance Program. I-HITEC is one of 62 regional extension centers nationwide that are receiving funding to help meet a goal of having all health-care providers use electronic health information technology by 2014.
