After leading the Boilermakers to a pair of wins last week to kick off the conference slate, Purdue senior guard E’Twaun Moore has been rewarded with Big Ten Co-Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday.
Moore shared the honor with Illinois’ Demetri McCamey. The award marked the second time in his career that Moore has earned Big Ten weekly accolades, having also earned the acclaim on Feb. 4, 2008, and was also the first for the Boilermakers this season.
The East Chicago, Ind., native averaged 26.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game last week as Purdue jumped out to a 2-0 start in league play with wins over Michigan and Northwestern.
In the Boilermakers’ win in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, Moore netted 14 of his 21 points in the second half as Purdue turned a four-point halftime lead into a 23-point final margin. He also had seven of his game-high nine rebounds and three of his four assists in the decisive second frame.
He was 8-of-16 from the floor for the game, including 3-of-5 from long distance. His second triple against the Wolverines made him just the fourth player in program history to make 200 in his career.
Moore came out firing on Friday in the Boilers’ win over Northwestern, hitting five of his first six three-point attempts on the way to a career high-tying 31-point performance. He finished the game 11-of-20 from the field and 7-of-13 from the arc, setting career highs for both makes and attempts from long range.
He also grabbed seven rebounds, handed out three assists and tallied two steals against NU.
Purdue returns to the floor on Wednesday, when it visits Penn State for a 6:30 p.m. ET contest at the Bryce Jordan Center. Big Ten Network will provide the television coverage and the Purdue Sports Network will broadcast the action on the radio waves.
