Purdue’s Hummel To Receive Brady Comeback Award

Purdue All-America forward Robbie Hummel will be among those honored as a winner of the Thomas A. Brady, MD Comeback Award at the seventh-annual Brady Sports Achievement Awards on April 12. The ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis.

A three-time All-American, three-time All-Big Ten first team honoree and winner of the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Hummel will be honored alongside Ball State’s Ashtyn Brown, Sullivan High School’s Alysia Bennett, Crispus Attucks High School’s Bradley Humphrey and Franklin Community High School’s Evan Meade. The awards were established by the Methodist Sports Medicine Research and Education Foundation in partnership with Indiana University Health.

Hummel was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2012 after leading the Boilers in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots. His average of 16.4 points ranked fourth in the Big Ten, while his marks of 7.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per outing ranked fourth and sixth in the conference, respectively.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native also won the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, a national accolade celebrating four areas of excellence: classroom, character, community and competition. Hummel is Purdue’s first-ever winner of the award, and its third national finalist in as many years after Chris Kramer in 2010 and E’Twaun Moore in 2011.

Hummel finished his career ranked ninth in program history in scoring with 1,772 points, tied for fourth in rebounds with 862, fourth in three-point field goals with 216 and seventh in blocks with 112.

Also set to be honored on April 12 are Purdue football legends Bob Griese and Joe Tiller. Both will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of their longtime professional accomplishments in the field of athletics.
