Rain Barrel Workshops Scheduled for March

recycleThe Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County will hold rain barrel workshops this spring to help residents of Porter County learn more about the benefits of rain barrels, how to use them, and proper location and installation.

The workshops will be held at 6 and 7:30 p.m. each night; Monday, March 28, at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage; and Tuesday through Thursday, March 29 through 31, at Sunset Hill Farm County Park, 775 Meridian Road, Valparaiso. The cost of $45 for the workshop includes a rain barrel with spigot and linking and overflow fitting. Additional rain barrels can be ordered at the time of registration. Pre-registration and advance payment is required for each workshop.

Rain Barrels are an efficient, low-cost method for collecting rainwater,” said Therese Davis, executive director of the district. “Rain barrels are placed at downspouts to capture rainwater which can be used for many purposes, such as washing your car or watering a garden or your houseplants."
