Raising Awareness for Valplayso

The Valpo Parks Foundation held its Party in the Park on August 17, 2013, from 7 pm to 11 pm at Valplayso. The celebration was held to raise awareness and funds for the revival of the nineteen year old park, Valplayso. The Parks Foundation calls this revival “Valplayso: The Next Generation.” The meaning behind this theme is the parents of the children playing at the park today helped build Valplayso when they were children, hence the next generation.

Our goal for this event was to raise funds to rejuvenate Valplayso,” Director of Business Operation Christy Graf said.

This year the food was provided by Bon Femme, along with the option of a late night pizza snack catered by Around the Fire Pizza.

The Chris and Lou Band was responsible for the night’s music. The main event of the night was “Valpo Feud,” a mock version of Family Feud. The stage was set up as the traditional Family Feud was with Rick Urschel acting as host. There were two teams, Not So Civil Servants and Big Bad Businesses, featuring people from the community, such as Karen Vogelsang and Sheriff David Lain, versing off to win bragging rights.

We have had more attendance this year than last year, and everyone seems to be excited about the Family Feud Show,” Graf stated.

250 people showed up to the fundraiser tonight! With over $2,000 raised, one could say, the event was a success. The Big Bad Business swept the competition raising $1,026 total!
