Random Acts of Kindness: Days 70-79

Scatter-KindnessThese Acts of Kindness are in the participants own words and the only purpose of this challenge was to scatter kindness.

Day 70
So for Christmas I ordered something my son really wanted from #patagonia, and it was out of stock after I ordered it andI was sent an email telling me to log on and chat with a rep to see if they could help me in such short notice.

So I went on @patagonia to discuss with instant chat. A nice girl named Shayna helped me and when she apologized profusely, I said “No worries (even though it was my son’s big present), I understand supply and demand, and life.” She told me that I may have been the only person that she has talked to in the last couple weeks that actually understood supply and demand, and life.

I then told her I was sorry because I imagined she had a tough job as a customer service rep at Christmas time. She then told me that my positive words had changed the outcome of her day. I was happy to do so.

Anyway, four days went by and the mailman rang my doorbell. He had a package that was hand addressed by Shayna. It was a thank you note to me for being nice and understanding and for making her day better. She also sent me a couple of gifts to say thank u.

This single unnecessary act has made me seriously think about how I will choose to go through life from now on. Did I deserve a gift for being nice? Prolly not, but because I received it, I will do my kindergarten best to always be understanding and cool to someone who obviously has no control over the inventory. Just makes me sad to think so many other people act ugly in the face of disappointment.

Anyway. Thank you Shayna. And to @patagonia, you should be proud of the people you hire. I will always do business with you, regardless of your inventory.

Day 72
Actually, I did a couple nice things for my mother yesterday. Can I count one of those? I gave her a scarf I had just gotten done crocheting and was intending for myself.

Day 73
It was fun thinking about what I could do!

This morning before work I stopped at our local dollar store and bought an encouraging greeting card. I went outside and wrote “Have a wonderful day!” and put a smiley face on the card & sealed it. Then I went back in the store and gave it to the cashier & told her it was for her. She said “for me?” I could tell she was surprised.

Then I quickly went to my car & drove to work.

Thanks for sharing this challenge with me. It makes me want to do this kind of thing more!

Day 75
Weird, but I just did a RAK today!!

I was in line at Bed Bath and Beyond behind this older man that purchased some kitchen appliance that cost him $60+. He didn’t use any coupons I noticed so when I got done, I ran to my car and got a extra coupon that I had and called out to him in the parking lot and told him to go back in and give them the coupon so that he could get 20% off. He was so surprised and thankful.

I can’t say that I’m someone who does things like that often but it felt good. Plus I’m a sucker for old guys and animals!?!?

So good luck with spreading that kindness!!

Day 76
As you could imagine, men are generally not the recipient of RAK and/or pay it forward. One day while at Uptown Cafe, I purchased a coffee for the gentleman that was in line behind me. He was startled to say the least as that had never happened to him before to the point that he was uncomfortable accepting a free coffee. The owners of Uptown Cafe assured him that there were no strings attached and that I do that frequently.

The second occurrence happened on Valentine’s Day. Was having breakfast at Third Coast Spice Cafe and observed a very happy young couple with a little girl enjoying their time with each other. Did not know who they were; however, I purchased their entire meal with a smile. Later that day I received a text with a heart filled thanks.

Day 77
No response to activity.

Day 78
I had a few things to return at Target, and some additional things that I wanted to buy.

I noticed the lady behind me had a simple return (one item), so I let her go in front of me.

Day 79
My sister in law texted me yesterday, “What are your girls doing school vacation week?” I replied,”Going to WDW?” She had forgotten our plans. No worries.

A few texts later we extended the invite to my niece to come with us. We had space in the car, space in our accommodations and an extra park ticket. Cousins Rule WDW!!!
