Recap of South Shore Clean Cities’ Electric Vehicle & Infrastructure Workshop

sscc-iOn behalf of the entire South Shore Clean Cities team, I would like to say thank you to all who attended our 2011 Electric Vehicle & Infrastructure Workshop on October 19. It was a pleasure networking with you and sharing our experiences with electric vehicles.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the items we discussed at the event.

  • U.S. Representative Pete Visclosky said there are three key reasons to promote electric vehicles. First, it is important to our national security to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Secondly, zero emissions electric vehicles will help protect the environment. Third, it will put people to work.
    • "Green jobs need to be U.S. jobs."
  • Eaton recently installed a charging station at a shopping center in Aurora, IL. Kevin Kirkham from NIPSCO unveiled the outline for their $3 million, three-year pilot program to encourage individuals, businesses and community partners to get on board with electric vehicles.
    • "We have to show we have an EV friendly environment to entice EV development"
  • As part of NIPSCO's plan, the first 250 homeowners who want to install a charging station in their homes will receive $1,650 toward the purchase and installation of that charging station. Homeowners will also be able to charge their vehicles for free from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • NIPSCO will also open 10 public charging stations on their property.
  • Watch Channel 16 - WNDU interviews for key highlights of the event.

Thank you for your attendance and interest in alternative fuels & alternative fuel vehicles. We look forward to seeing you at our future events.
