Record 70 Companies Make ‘Best Places to Work in Indiana’ List

By: Indiana Chamber of Commerce Last Updated: February 22, 2011

IndianaChamber_clrA record-tying 70 Hoosier companies are being honored this year as a “Best Place to Work in Indiana,” according to a list released today by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, which manages the statewide program. The company rankings will be announced at an annual awards dinner, presented by Comcast, on May 5 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis.

Of the 70 companies noted for their strong workplace environment that values employees, 45 were repeats from last year. Meanwhile, it marked the first-ever appearance for 20 companies.

Five companies – Ash Brokerage Corporation (Fort Wayne), Columbus Regional Hospital, Edward Jones (statewide), Katz, Sapper & Miller (Indianapolis) and KPMG LLP (Indianapolis) – have made the Best Places to Work list all six years of the program’s existence.

The top companies in the state are determined through employer reports and comprehensive employee surveys. Winners were selected from two categories: small to medium-sized companies of between 15 and 249 U.S. employees, and large-sized companies consisting of 250 or more employees nationwide. Out-of-state parent companies were eligible to participate if at least 15 full-time employees are in Indiana.

The Best Companies Group, which handled the selection process, oversees similar programs in 21 other states.

“Our goal with the Best Places to Work in Indiana program is two-fold: to recognize the first-rate Hoosier employers who create an environment in which employees feel valued and to encourage Indiana companies to examine their workplace structure and how it impacts their employees,” offers Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar. “After all, an employee who feels valued will likely be a more dependable, productive worker, and therefore have a positive impact on the company’s bottom line.”

In addition to the May 5 awards dinner, winners will be recognized via a special section of the Indiana Chamber’s bimonthly BizVoice® magazine and through Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick – both of which reach statewide audiences. The 2011 Best Places to Work in Indiana awards dinner is open to the public. Individual tickets and tables are available at www.indianachamber.com/specialevents.

Additionally, on the previous day, a session on what makes a company a Best Place to Work will be featured as part of the Indiana Chamber’s 47th Annual Human Resources Conference. To register to attend this HR session, visit www.indianachamber.com/conferences.

All companies that participated in the 2011 Best Places to Work program receive an in-depth evaluation identifying strengths and weaknesses according to their employees. In turn, this report can be used in developing or enhancing employee retention and recruitment programs.
