Recycling District Asks Students to Help Celebrate America Recycles Day

Spring-Master-Recycler-program-registration-deadline-Friday-February-24th-2016Porter County Recycling & Waste Reduction hopes to mark America Recycles Day in a big way this year! The solid waste district is sponsoring an art contest for Porter County middle school students, and three winning designs will be featured on billboards in Porter County.

November 15 is America Recycles Day. The winning artwork will rotate electronically in four locations during the month of November to help promote the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the support of recycling programs in the United States.

The contest is open to students in both public and private middle schools (sixth, seventh and eighth grades) in Porter County. There is no entry fee. Artists can choose one of two themes: “Recycling is Easy!” or “Porter County Recycles!”

Billboard design requirements, forms and important dates are available on the website, www.PorterCountyRecycling.org. Artwork is due no later than Friday, Oct. 13.

“We hope to be able to show off some original artwork while reminding everyone to recycle,” said Donna Stuckert, district public education coordinator. “Students may use a variety of media, such as watercolors, pen and ink, crayons, chalk, markers, etc. The brighter and more colorful they make their designs, the better they will reproduce and be seen by those passing by the billboards.”
