Registration Still Open for United Way Valpo Half Marathon

unitedway portercountyUnited Way of Porter County (UWPC) is hosting its 5th annual Valparaiso Half Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 9, with all race proceeds going to UWPC’s Power of Youth Council. The student-led program holds fundraisers that benefit community youth self esteem programs.

Over 700 race participants, volunteers and spectators from Northwest Indiana and neighboring states are expected to attend. Beginning at 8:30 am at the United Way of Porter County office, the race course features a flat and fast route and split times at every mile and S.W.O.R.D. Performance hydration drinks at every water station. All participants are invited to attend the heated tent post-race festival with donated food and a live DJ.

The Halfway Party is back this year, featuring “pick-me-ups” including PowerGel Energy Gels sponsored by Extra Mile Fitness Company, as well as music and photo opportunities from ValpoLife.

Runners can register for the half marathon online through 4:00 pm Nov. 8. Registration costs $50 through Nov. 8 and $55 on the day of the race. All runners will receive custom finisher’s medals, and runners who register before Nov. 1 will be guaranteed a long sleeve technical race shirt.

The Power of Youth Council, a United Way initiative, is comprised of Porter County high school students who recognize the importance of youth involvement in the community. Students have the opportunity to be advocates on issues that affect teens, participate in community service projects, build leadership skills and network with other high school students in the community.
