Renfro Homers in Setback at Indiana State

Freshman Brady Renfro (Antigo, Wis. / Antigo) crushed his third home run of the season to move into a tie for the team lead, but the Valparaiso University baseball team was on the wrong end of a 12-1 score against No. 23 Indiana State on Sunday afternoon at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute.

How It Happened

  • The Sycamores (20-8, 7-1) jumped in front with a four-run first, then put up another crooked number in the third by plating five.
  • Valpo’s tally came in the fifth when Renfro belted a blast to right center.
  • Indiana State added one more in the sixth and invoked the run rule as the game needed just seven innings to reach its conclusion.

Inside the Game

  • Renfro enjoyed a multi-hit output including the aforementioned home run to pace the Valpo offense. The rookie has climbed into third on the team in batting average and ranks second on the squad in MVC play.
  • Riley Dent (Long Beach, Calif. / Wilson) notched a hit on Sunday and owns a team-best .370 average in MVC games.
  • Jon Tieman (Crystal Lake, Ill. / Prairie Ridge) struck out five in his 2 1/3 innings of work, lifting his career total to 218. That allowed him to jump another spot on Valpo’s all-time strikeout list, as the veteran righthander is now eighth. He surpassed Richard Beumer (1959-1962, 217) for eighth on Sunday.
