The Residences at Coffee Creek fully embraced their name tonight with the first part of their Coffee and a Concert Series. Residents sipped ice cappuccinos and coffee milkshakes while a Chicagoland favorite, Ivy Ford, serenaded them with soulful blues.
While the senior living community normally invites surrounding members to come in and join their events, this concert was open only to its residents to keep people socially distanced and safe while the COVID-19 pandemic is still a concern. To keep the community involved, they decided to include an online element in the fun.
“We’re trying to keep things at a social distance because we want to make sure we are doing things safely,” said Natalie Reisen, Director of Sales and Marketing. “The musicians agreed to come and perform for our residents outside. We’re putting the concerts on Facebook live for people to enjoy.”
While events may look different for the senior living community at the moment, Ivy Ford said she is no stranger to Residences at Coffee Creek. She regularly performs at Coffee Creek and their sister facility, Residences at Deer Creek, something that first got started almost two years ago. She has performed at events such as a Mardi Gras-themed luncheon and Christmas parties.
“I’ve been traveling for four or five years now,” Ford said. “It’s really nice considering the situations and limitations. I’m just looking forward to the opportunity to play for people and have some sort of normalcy.”
Residents were happy to start getting back to a normal schedule and once again have fun events they can attend. Long-term residents were used to the jam-packed schedule Coffee Creek organizes. While they have continued many of their smaller-scale events, the concert series is the first time in months that they have hosted a larger celebration.
“It’s really exciting. It’s been a little dull, so it’s really nice. It’s been a beautiful evening and I enjoyed her performance very much,” resident Dorothy Jones said.
Residents are not the only ones who appreciate this transition back into a more fun-filled calendar. The staff is happy to once again host events that both give residents the opportunity to enjoy themselves and give the staff an opportunity to serve.
“We have a really great team. I love working with them when planning events,” Reisen said.
