LaPorte-Symphony-April-Pops-2On Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m., the LaPorte Civic Auditorium is the location for a youthful spectacle of song, dance and symphonic pop tunes that are the trademark of the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra. The audience will be taken on an entertaining and energizing journey of youthful glee, fun and games.

The April Pops concert, appropriately titled "young@heart" will be a combination of the voices of the Notre Dame Glee Club, the dancers of South Shore Dance Alliance and the sweet sounds of the LCSO Children's Chorus.

Maestro Bauman has a knack for creating entertaining programing that suits listeners of all tastes. This evening there will be youthful classics like West Side Story, the Pirates of Penzance, and the Wizard of Oz. As a bonus, he is bringing a dramatic concert sensation that really is sweeping the nation, "Video Games Live." LCSO will play a thrilling medley of fresh and lively gaming music! From the strains of the intense introduction of Halo to the themes of Civilization IV, Bounty Hunter and Kingdom Hearts this crowd-pleaser is sure to resonant boldly with all the "gamers@heart." And for those who love the TV series "Glee," you will recognize it when Somebody Loves You!

This concert is made possible once again through support from the Robert F. Hiler Family Foundation. This family has been a major sponsor of the April Pops concert for 20 years.

Additional funding for the guest artists is from: South Bend Memorial, Sullair, Dr. Charles Hagenow and the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County.

This relaxing evening of entertainment will include a cash bar and light snacks available for purchase.

Other activities of the evening include voting on a chance to win the opportunity to conduct the orchestra right there at the concert as they perform "The Stars and Stripes Forever". Details below.

Do you know someone who wants to be the conductor for one magical moment?

LaPorte County Symphony's Magic Baton Auction provides funds that go toward symphony projects that foster musical growth in young people.

This year the Magic Baton will be held in a new way, in order to involve more people and to save time at the concert itself:

  1. For the next week, an individual interested in conducting the orchestra may "throw his/her hat into the ring" with a $25 donation to the orchestra. Send your nomination to MagicBaton@LCSO.net or call (219) 362-9020.
  2. Nominees will be posted online and everyone can vote for them by pledging a donation to the orchestra. Send your pledge amount & vote to MagicBaton@LCSO.net. A vote can cost as little as one dollar; however, stuffing the ballot box by buying more votes is encouraged.
  3. At the concert, photos of the nominees with donation boxes will be prominently displayed so that more voting/donations can be made.
  4. The winner will be the one who has raised the most money for the orchestra. That person will perform with the symphony at the April 16 Pops Concert, after intermission at the Civic Auditorium conducting John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever."
