Samardzija Goes 8-Strong in AAA

The Iowa Cubs won 4-0 on the back of a solid Jeff Samardzija performance.

The 6’5" righty gave up 6 hits over eight shutout innings, putting his team in position to win. He struck out six and walked four, lowering his ERA to a very respectable 3.71.

Samardzija helped his cause to get called up to the majors by hitting as well. He was 1 for 3 with a single, raising his batting average to .313.

During his first stint in the majors in the bullpen, Samardzija struggled. His performance as a starter in the minors over the past two seasons though, would seem to indicate that he would be the first choice to be called up to fill a vacancy in the Cubs’ starting rotation.
