Have months of fun in the sun left your skin discolored, freckled and aged despite your vigilant use of sunscreen? Has time taken its toll around your eyes, mouth, hands, and décolletage, leaving you with wrinkled, spotted skin? Safe, gentle skin rejuvenation is just a quick visit away at the Vein & Laser Institute.

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial offered VLI is a noninvasive treatment used to improve skin conditions such as hyperpigmentation, age spots, rosacea, freckles, fine lines, wrinkles, facial veins, mild to moderate acne and stretch marks, as well as increase collagen production. It can be performed almost anywhere on the skin but those with sun damage and small veins on their face, neck, chest, arms, hands, or legs see the most benefit from IPL.

Jordan Fazekas, technician at Vein & Laser Institute, said SmartPulse™ technology delivers precise light through several layers of skin to correct the treated area. The light is absorbed by melanin in the skin or the blood in tiny broken vessels or spider veins being targeted. The treatment also stimulates collagen in skin cells below the surface. IPL light rays disrupt damaged skin cells, which are then replaced by healthy cells that give your face a radiant, even skin tone and a plumping effect typically noticeable in young skin.

Fazekas said the procedure involves only minimal discomfort and can be performed on a lunch break. Patients can expect to feel a light snap on the skin, similar to a flick, and there is no pain afterward; any redness or swelling that may occur disappears within 1-3 days. Patients can get back to their every-day routines immediately after their appointment and should see results gradually in the weeks following treatment.

Fazekas explained treatment is unique to each patients' skincare goals and desires. Some patients may need multiple sessions spaced 4 weeks apart to achieve their desired outcome, while others may be satisfied after one session. Yearly touch-ups done during the winter months (the treatment makes skin sun-sensitive) are recommended to maintain results.

The cost of an IPL treatment starts at $150 for the face but varies depending on the size of the targeted area. Those with naturally or heavily tanned skin or patients who have a darker skin tone are encouraged to speak with Vein & Laser Institute providers before scheduling an appointment for IPL.
