A Message from the Principal:
This course selection guide is designed to provide you with an overview of Valparaiso High School and State of Indiana graduation requirements. A more detailed listing of requirements and course descriptions is available on the VHS Website: www.valpo.k12.in.us. The educational plan you develop now serves as a strong foundation upon which you will build your future plans.
Please take time to go online and read about the courses required for graduation along with the elective courses available to you. I encourage you to take time to discuss this information with your parents/guardians. By reviewing the information, you will develop a clear understanding of the content and expectations of the courses you select.
As you design your program, keep these facts in mind:
- CORE 40 is now Indiana’s required curriculum. All students will be expected to complete CORE 40 as a graduation requirement.
- Valparaiso High School operates on a sevenperiod class day. Therefore, the maximum course load for a student is 14 classes per year in the traditional school setting.
- Select the course of study which is most appropriate for you. You are encouraged to push yourself academically, but be careful not to overextend yourself, especially during your freshman year.
- The advice your teachers and counselor can offer you in making your course selections is extremely valuable. They can help guide your choices to meet your personal goals and objectives.
