School Bus Driver, Miss Rue Reporting for Duty

This morning I drove some Immanuel 4th grade students and their teacher to Sunset Hill Farms Park on my Big Yellow School Bus.  There was a whole lot to see today as the Fall Harvest Festival & Antique Equipment Show is just getting underway.  I felt like a V.I.P. as one of the Board of Directors for the festival, Fred Armstrong, escorted me around by golf cart.  Thanks for the tour Fred!

The kids were pretty impressed with the steam engines, the threshing machine, and the shingles they received after watching them be made right before their eyes.  I think for most kids, it's always good to get out of the classroom, but this morning was a special treat.  It also serves as a supplement to what they are learning in Indiana history.  Words and pictures in a book are great, but there's nothing like the real thing.

The tractor in the picture is one of only a few that still exists.   It is called a Cross engine tractor, because the engine is mounted across the frame rather than vertically or with the frame as in engines of today.  We all signed a card thanking the owner of this tractor who was unable to attend the festival.

The festival runs September 25, 26, 27 and breakfast on the show grounds is from 6:30 to 10:00 AM where you can catch a pretty good plate of biscuits and gravy for a very reasonable price.
