Although it is not quite Halloween, Valpo Culver’s still celebrated the upcoming holiday on Sunday, Oct. 27. From 2 to 4 p.m., Culver’s held a Halloween party for kids, where they could color Halloween pictures, decorate pumpkins, get candy, and have their face painted.
Scoopie, the Culver’s mascot, was also in attendance. Decked out in a superhero costume, he walked around the restaurant to hand out candy and pose for photos with the children, many of whom were also dressed up.
Those who wore their Halloween costumes to Culver’s even got a free scoop of frozen custard as a special treat. Anyone who participated in decorating pumpkins also received a deck of cards.
“Everybody’s a winner at Culver’s,” said Denny Dalka, office manager for the Valparaiso and Schererville Culver’s locations.
According to Dalka, his Culver’s locations held Halloween parties last year, and this year they were able to it again. For a better turnout, there was more advertising for the event.
“It’s gone over a little bit better this year than last year,” said Dalka. Dalka hopes to make Culvers’ Halloween parties annual events, and considers it very likely since they have already hosted the celebrations for two consecutive years. The growing awareness of the event is also a good sign for its continuation.
“It’s just something for the kids to do, something to get our mascot out,” said Dalka.
