The Easter Bunny only has two hands, and sometimes he needs a little help to get all of those colorful eggs stuffed in time, and he had many hands thanks to the partnership of NorthShore Health Centers and Miller’s Senior Center of Portage.

The Monday before NorthShore’s 3rd annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday March 19, 2016, 13 residents from Miller’s Senior Living in Portage volunteered their time to help put candy into plastic Easter eggs that would be gathered by hundreds of children in a few days’ time.

“NorthShore gave us a call and asked if we wanted to help out,” Kim Walters, Life Enrichment Activities Program Director for Miller’s Senior Living said. “I told our residents about it and they seemed excited to help out. We all get to take part and our residents feel good knowing that what they are doing is helping the community.”

The Easter Eggstravaganza will take place at Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County Portage Unit on Evergreen Avenue in Portage on Saturday from 1pm-4pm. The event is free and open to the public and there will be a lot to do for the young and the young at heart.

"We have bounce houses, Disney and Marvel characters coming out to see the kids, a t-ball game, face painting, other agencies will be providing even more fun activities for the kids, and of course the Easter Bunny will be there," Gervay Dickerson, Lake County Lead and Event Coordinator for NorthShore said. "We wanted to provide a free event for kids that was in a safe place where they could have fun and just be kids. And we are extremely grateful to have the help from Miller's."

There are about 700-800 kids expected to show up so 10,000 eggs should cover everyone. For more information on NorthShore's Easter Eggstravaganza, call 219-763-8112 or toll-free at 1-888-313-8557, or visit www.northshorehealth.org
