Six of Top 12 Gymnastics Teams in State Face off in DAC Clash

Valpo-Gymnastics-1When it comes to Varsity Gymnastics, it’s safe to say that there is no more competitive conference in the state than right here in the Duneland Athletic Conference.

And if you need proof, just take a look at the latest Indiana High School Girls Gymnastics poll.

Valparaiso at #1 in the latest rankings heads a stacked conference which features six of the state’s top 12 teams, including #3 Crown Point, #4 Chesterton, #7 Merrillville, #9 Portage, and #11 Michigan City.

Lake Central sits just outside the top 15 in the “Others Receiving Votes” category as well.

Valpo, Crown Point, and Chesterton also hold three of the State’s top five team scores of the 2015-16 year, with Portage and Merrillville joining in on the top 10.

Additionally, the DAC holds 10 of the top 20 individual scores recorded in All-Around this year as well.

The top six teams in the conference have all had a shot at each other this year, with Valpo holding the slight edge in each of the contests against the others, and the other five teams rotating victories in head-to-head matchups.

However, anything can happen tonight when they all compete for the first time together 2/22 at the DAC Meet which will allow the teams to get a true feel of where they stand heading into State competition.
