Snyder Announces Completion of Property Reassessment

Porter-County-Assesor-Group-PhotoPorter County Assessor Jon Snyder announced today that his office has completed the 2012 general reassessment, marking the end of a 16-month process of on-site property inspection, review and evaluation of more than 80,000 real property parcels.

The process has been long and challenging, but we’ve reached the end,” Snyder said. “I am thankful for all of the help and support we’ve received.”

Every five years, the assessor is required by state law to visit every property in the county to ensure the county’s records are accurate and complete. The reassessment officially began on July 1, 2010, and must conclude no later than March 1, 2012.

The data gathered during reassessment is critical to minimizing the risk of delayed property bills for the upcoming year.

On-time tax billing is a win for local government and for taxpayers,” Snyder said. “It is my top priority.”

Snyder thanked Portage Township Assessor Millie Arocho for her teamwork and cooperation in completing the task, as well as to the County Council and County Commissioners for their support.

I appreciate the help of all of my fellow elected officials in getting this job done,” Snyder said. “Collaboration is key in any monumental task, and we were blessed to have such cooperation.

Snyder also thanked his staff, whom he credits with doing all of the legwork. “They went out of their way to make sure that this job was done completely and on time, and I appreciate their dedication to this project.”
