South Haven Club Members Spend Saturday Helping the Homeless

2014-SH-Pacific-GardensBoys & Girls Clubs of Porter County – South Haven Unit’s Torch Club members dedicated an entire Saturday to support the efforts of Pacific Gardens Mission. Pacific Gardens is a homeless shelter where 1,100 people stay nightly, and where 2,400 meals are served on a daily basis. Pacific Gardens Mission serves as a place of refuge and transformation for people seeking food, shelter, clothing, medical, and dental care – and has been doing so since 1877.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County is committed to developing the good character and citizenship abilities in our youth. Approximately 20 Club members traveled to the south side of Chicago specifically to volunteer and serve meals to the clients of Pacific Gardens Mission. Additionally, Club members collected clothing to give to the residents.

“The Club members of our South Haven Unit continue to amaze me,” states Unit Director Ron Ranta. “Our Club members really care about our communities, and those that may be less fortunate than us. For them, this was not giving up a Saturday – but a day of providing hope and opportunities for others.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s mission is to inspire and enable the youth of our community to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring individuals. Our Club staff impresses the importance of good character and leadership with our Club members. Community service projects, like helping the homeless, are encouraged at our Clubs.
