South Shore Orchestra Donates to Ivy Tech Foundation and Thanks OE

South Shore Orchestra presented a fabulous musical evening on May 23 celebrating the American Hero. Music thrilled the audience as well as the orchestra! Musicians were excited afterwards as the music seemed to erupt and engage all who were there. One aspect was clear--the theater space delivered their orchestration of the passionate music presented!

Ivy Tech Auditorium Theater is an excellent performance venue. They are also a generous sponsor of SSO and their mission to orchestrate a musical community, through the provision of their acoustically appointed performance space for two of their their three annual concerts as well as the youth symphony concerts. Ivy Tech offered SSO the use of this space shortly after the completion of the new campus to broaden educational possibilities for their regional community. The 300 seat capacity enables the orchestra to engage larger audiences while the fine acoustics and accessible location make it especially desirable for the audience.

In appreciation for Ivy Tech’s sponsorship, SSO President Pete Brannen chose this concert to present the Ivy Tech Foundation with a gift. Eugenia Sacopulos, Ivy Tech Grant/Project Manager, accepted the $500 check. SSO is grateful for this partnership.

This evening was highlighted for Ivy Tech as well, as it was the first time a solo was presented on the newly gifted Baldwin cherry baby grand piano given to enhance performance space options. The piano was donated in memory of Jean Isaacs by Fred D. Rendina, a promoter of the arts and Friend to Ivy Tech. To celebrate this new feature, Conductor Troy Webdell requested guest soloist Joseph Bognar of Valparaiso University to play a piece composed by Charles Ives, the featured composer for the evening, Bognar shared some interesting historical facts about the composer, the piece and the piano before he debuted the instrument.

South Shore Orchestra also thanked another new partner. Opportunity Enterprise volunteer clients and staff assisted SSO in taking tickets and disbursing programs to concert goers. We are happy to have OE as a newly added partner to our concert programs.
