South_Shore_Orchestra_Presents_Wind_Quin-1On Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., the South Shore Orchestra (SSO) will present a wind quintet chamber concert that will feature a global kaleidoscope of music. The beautiful, sunny sounds of flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn and bassoon take center stage as listeners will be treated to spirited musical impressions from America, France, Cuba and Britain by composers such as Debussy, Cervantes and Arnold. "This concert will leave you feeling refreshed and excited about wind music!" says SSO Principal Bassoonist and ensemble organizer Emily Smith, "Everyone is sure to enjoy and recognize at least a few bars from melodies like '˜Golliwogg's Cakewalk' or '˜Sailors' Hornpipe.'" The SSO's wind quintet chamber concert offers a great opportunity to hear works that may be unfamiliar, as well as the chance to experience popular pieces in a new light. With a program full of toe-tapping melodies, you may even find yourself dancing a jig!

This is the SSO's second Lunchtime Chamber Series concert at the Memorial Opera House. Lunchtime Chamber Series concerts are 45 - 60 minutes in length and showcase different musical styles and ensembles in a chamber music setting. The SSO will present three more Lunchtime Chamber Series concerts, as well as two more full-orchestra concerts for its remaining 2015 season.

Celebrating its 11th year, the South Shore Orchestra continues to orchestrate a musical community in Porter County and beyond.
