Southpoint US 30 Cruise IN at Harley Davidson Valparaiso

On Friday, hundreds gathered at Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso as classic hot rods and modern muscle cars filled the parking lots and lined the streets.

Gearheads around the Region and beyond toured different makes and models of cars and motorcycles. The crowd lounged in Leroy’s Beer Garden and enjoyed food provided by Suzie’s Café with live music by Chronic Flannel. Hosted by Harley-Davidson of Valpo in partnership with Grieger’s Motor Sales, the Southpoint Cruise In is a great place to show off your hot rod or just relax, eat some food, and watch the cars go by.

“People are very happy to have a place to gather and show off their bikes and cars” said Ginger Misch, Harley-Davidsons event and motor-clothes manager. “It’s a nice place for people to come out and have some old-fashioned fun. Its all about the community, they need something to do.”

The Cruise Nights event took a break last year, and many long-time fans clamored to bring the event back. With help from their partners, such as Greiger’s, they were able to bring it back to full scale.

“When Harley-Davidson came to us and asked for a sponsorship it was a no brainer,” said Justin Carlson, Internet Manager for Greiger’s. “It’s a great way for us to get out of the dealership and meet with our customers and community on a different playing field and have some fun. We are just excited to be here.”

ZRodz and Customs is a long-time partner of Southpoint Cruise In. “It gives everyone a destination where they don’t have to spend a bunch of money,” said Gary Nicholson of ZRodz and Customs. “It’s great entertainment for people of all ages. There is no obligation, you just show up and enjoy yourself, you could walk around or just set up a folding chair and enjoy the show.”

Robert Ramirez, a longtime participant and volunteer, displayed his ’68 Chevy Impala. He was thrilled that Harley-Davidson brought the event back after its brief hiatus.

“It is really cool to see people so invested. We had people coming down here from Canada. Word gets around, you know. California’s got a big car culture and even they don’t have anything like this. It’s a really unique thing here,” said Ramirez.

Southpoint Cruise In will continue every Friday through August 30th, from 6pm-9pm. Visit each time to hear all the different bands and see some of the most impressive cars and motorcycles from all around the Region.

Their partners include: View Outdoor Advertising, M & S Collision Centers, Perfection Detailing, Babilla Roofing, Valpo Trailer, Martin Security, Copper Customs, Broadway Glass, Adams Radio, and Ozinga.
