The Valparaiso High School baseball team closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a 10-0 victory over Highland High School.

The Vikings were led by Spence Sunday, who pitched six shutout innings, giving up just two hits and four walks while striking out seven. He also went 1-for-3 in the batters box, registering an RBI. Stephen Simms, Devin Bafia, Greg Thoma, and Renee Lozano each recorded two hits for the Vikings, who scored all ten runs in the last two innings of the ball game.

Valpo moves on to the state baseball tournament, with Sectionals starting Wednesday at 4:30 against Chesterton at Merrillville High School. If they advance past Chesterton, they will play the winner of Michigan City and Crown Point on Friday. Portage, Merrillville, Hobart, and La Porte are also in the Vikings’ Class 4A sectional bracket.
