St. Anthony Health-Crown Point to Offer Free Prostate Screenings

Franciscan-St-Anthony-Crown-PointThe Burrell Cancer Center at Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point will offer free prostate cancer screenings, which will include protein-specific antigen (PSA) blood testing and a digital rectal exam, during September, which is national Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

The program will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 19.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and the second-leading cause of cancer deaths, affecting one in 11 males.

The American Cancer Society recommends that starting at age 50, men should discuss with their physician whether a screening is right for them. Those at higher risk of developing prostate cancer, including men who are African American or who have a farther or brother who had prostate cancer before age 65, may need to start screening at age 45. Men who are at very high risk, those who have more than one relative with the affliction, should discuss testing with their physician at age 40.

The Burrell Cancer Center Radiation Therapy Department is located on the Franciscan St. Anthony Health campus, on the hospital’s west side, near the admitting area, at 1201 S. Main St.

A limited number of appointments is available. To register, call (800) 931-3322.
