St. Catherine Hospital Auxiliary hosted the 23rd annual Wings of Healing tree lighting program on Tuesday, Dec. 11, to bring hope to others and serve as a way to give back to the community through the auxiliary’s scholarship program. The scholarship program provides educational assistance to area students pursuing careers in healthcare.
For a $10 donation, individuals, businesses and organizations have a customized angel hung on the Wings of Healing tree. Personalized Angel of Hope cards are sent to honorees or families to let them know of the donation and to extend an invitation to the Wings of Healing angel illumination ceremony. For a $25 donation, a keepsake angel ornament is also mailed or presented to an honoree.
At the tree lighting ceremony in the chapel, Kelly Besaw, MSN, RN, Nurse Manager, ARU/5W, was the guest speaker. The event had more than 100 people in attendance and was made available via broadcast to patient rooms.
St. Catherine Hospital Auxiliary President Judy Gresko said, “Everyone who participates in Wings of Healing can feel a sense of giving this holiday season in not only honoring a loved one, but in helping St. Catherine Hospital continue to provide community outreach initiatives and support our scholarship program. All proceeds from the event educate and empower residents to lead healthy lives and offer financial assistance to students in our service area.”
More than $100,000 in educational funding has been awarded to area residents through the scholarship program over the years. Many of the students are ‘angels in training’ who are pursuing careers in healthcare, Gresko says.
