St. Mary’s Catholic community adapts to new “Remote Learning” reality

Students at St. Mary Catholic Community have been using what is now being called “Remote Learning,” for several years.  Previously called "Virtual Learning," it had been reserved for snow days and other school cancellations.  Recently, the list of subjects taught by the teachers was expanded from Religion, Math, Reading, English, Social Studies, and Science to include Art, Technology, Music, and even Physical Education.  The platform of choice at St. Mary’s has been Google Classroom and the teachers had received intensive training for this last fall.  St. Mary’s principal, Tom Ruiz, had this to say, “I could not be more proud of our students for the way they’ve adapted to what has become our new reality.  It’s been a challenge for our parents, but they’ve given me a ton of positive feedback and expressed their appreciation.  Our teachers are amazing and they’ve worked extremely hard to plan interesting and creative lessons for their students and find ways to interact with them.”

St. Mary Catholic Community School in Crown Point offers grade levels Junior Pre-Kindergarten (for three year olds) through grade eight.  St. Mary’s faculty teaches a rich curriculum supported by cutting-edge technology.  Faith, Academic Excellence, Life Lessons, and Compassion are the pillars of the school.  To learn more about St. Mary School’s visit stmarycp.org/school.
