On July 27, 2016, Strack & Van Til presented a check for just over $33,000 to Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana. The presentation was the finale of the June “Checkout Challenge” at all Strack and Van Til, Ultra Foods and Town and Country Markets and was part of an overall effort that also included Meals on Wheels of Porter County.
“We’re humbled by the support of our shoppers” said Derek Kinney Vice President of HR for Strack and Van Til. “These dollars will go to support their mission to deliver nutritious meals to those in need with the support of community volunteers.” Kinney, who also serves as part of the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors said “I can’t say thank you enough to our customers and associates that supported the campaign… it was a huge success!”
The campaign was part of Strack & Van Til’s ongoing “Checkout Challenge” that allows shoppers the choice to donate right at checkout. Since its inception in August of 2015, the Checkout Challenge campaign has helped to raise over $500,000 for organizations that help those in need, 100% of which goes to the organizations themselves.
Sandra Noe, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of NWI said “Strack & Van Til has always been one of our strongest community partners, and we are so grateful for their continued support of Meals on Wheels.” Noe added “The round-up campaign was a great example of how pocket change quickly adds up to significant dollars that can impact the community in a positive way. Northwest Indiana is fortunate to have many local businesses like Strack & Van Til that see the benefit of investing generously in the community.”
According to Noe, the funds raised during the round-up campaign in June will provide 6,417 meals to seniors in Northwest Indiana.
