Strack & Van Til Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of South Valparaiso Store

Strack & Van Til’s Valparaiso location at 2168 W. Highway 30 will celebrate the completion of an extensive remodel with a grand re-opening event on Wednesday, January 18th beginning with the ribbon cutting at 9:00 am. Everyone in the Valparaiso community is invited to come see the improvements made to make their grocery shopping experience more enjoyable. Shoppers will find a vast new set of offerings in the newly remodeled store. Many of which have not before been seen in a grocery store in Valparaiso.

For those that have been shopping there for years, the entry is nearly unrecognizable with the store having added an additional entrance to ease the flow of shoppers in and out of the building. The new entry opens into an expanded fresh floral shop and a newly expanded produce department which offers more natural and organic produce and bulk foods than ever before. In addition, the store will now carry freshly squeezed juice, squeezed in store with an endless combination of flavors available. Specialty cheese remained a priority in the store, creating a space dedicated to the over 300 varieties of specialty cheese. The store shifted the entire deli, making way for a new beer and wine department. The store now offers one of the city’s most diverse selections of craft beers and specialty wines in the city. The deli also added a brand new smoker, a hummus and olive bar in addition to a salad bar and hot foods bar. Sushi is now made fresh daily directly right in front of the shopper at the newly added sushi bar. Shoppers can grab a quick lunch and head over the remodeled café style seating area equipped with casual seating and TVs. Another major addition was the full service, in-store scratch bakery department, with the addition of an expanded gourmet dessert program and Valpo’s only gourmet popcorn shop available in a grocery store. Rounding out the fresh upgrades is the addition of a full service meat and seafood case, offering a broader selection of specialty cuts, prepared entrees and fresh fish including a new fresh live lobster tank. To top off the renovations, the store kept energy efficiency at the forefront, throughout the project. Changing refrigeration fan motors to more energy efficient running motors, adding glass doors to all of the open front dairy cases, outfitting the entire store with new energy efficient LED lighting and added insulation to the underside of the entire store’s new open ceiling were all in an effort to reduce the store’s energy consumption. Annually, the store expects to conserve electricity to equal a reduction of over 800,000 kilowatt hours, nearly a 20% reduction in electricity usage.

Jeff Strack, President and CEO for Strack & Van Til, explains the reasons for the remodel. “Since my family opened the first Strack & Van Til in 1960 we have been committed to giving our loyal customers the best shopping experience. We’re excited to see multiple generations of shoppers in our store and I think that my grandfather would be proud to see how hard we are working to better serve our customers. We are so appreciative of the fact that the Valparaiso community continues to support us here and while they’ve had to put up with a lot of product moves, hammering and dust, we hope that they are as happy with the final result as we are.”
