Strong Start Puts Vikings Ahead of Portage 55-34

The Valparaiso High School varsity boys basketball team took home a 55-34 victory over Duneland Athletic Conference foe Portage on Friday.

The Vikings got off to a quick start and never looked back, leading the first quarter 20-11 then staying ahead 32-15 at half and 46-23 by the end of the third quarter, all despite a poor shooting night from behind the three-point line (3-for-16 as a team for the game).

Valpo had a strong inside game, led by John Mosser’s 19 points and 14 rebounds, seven of which came as offensive boards. Zach Meyer contributed eight points for the Vikings, while Bret Boetel added six points and led the team with five assists and three steals.

The varsity game followed a thrilling 41-37 triple-overtime victory for the junior varsity squad, so all-in-all it was a great night at the Viking Gym.
