Students Show Off Their Talent at 2014 Art Show

On Thursday April 10th Valparaiso High School Honors Art students had their 23rd annual showcase. This event combines IB/AP classes displaying their artwork from throughout the year. This year is very unique from the past shows due to the expansion of the show to 67 outstanding galleries. With this, comes a wide range of creativity and personalities. The students are given the freedom to express themselves through their artwork while using different mediums.

Senior, Caellaigh Klemz's art is extremely different from her peers.

She said, "My artwork features embroidery designs on photographs, which is a pretty unique medium."

However, Junior AP student, Ally Runnion explained what makes her artwork different in another way.

"My artwork is different from the others in my class because I have used a wide range of medium in my work. Instead of narrowing the tools I use, I have utilized prisma color pencil, prisma color marker, as well as inks, and computer-generated work using Photoshop and illustrator. This sets my art apart because with every new media comes a new style of the way I create art," Runnion said.

Cheyenne Schroeder explained how she's stayed motivated throughout the process, "I knew that it would be worth it in the end. My personality and beliefs are shown through my art, and I wanted to share that with others."

The amount of time and effort that goes into the show is nothing shy of impressive. Each student sets up and designs their gallery themselves. AP/IB Honors Art teacher, Mrs. Hanson, expressed how important it is that our community sees the good instead of the bad. She spoke very highly of her students and their hard-work and dedication.

Amy Martin gave similar compliments about her classmates, "The people in my art class because they are all so talented and it makes me want to create more and push my abilities to the limit."
