Supporting Lakeshore Public Television and Radio is Important for Northwest Indiana

Northwest Indiana: if you and your family enjoy Lakeshore Public Television and the great programming that comes with it, you should actually support the network through membership, sponsorship, auctions, and helping them spread the word about the programming and content.

We all grew up watching Sesame Street, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Electric Company, Schoolhouse Rock, and a ton of other great kids programming. They still have a great lineup on shows such as Sesame Street, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, Arthur, and Sid the Science Kid.

The bounty of public television has always included adult programming also with NOVA, a whole range of concerts to suit most any taste, America's Test Kitchen, the New Yankee Workshop, and Victory Garden.

LakeShore Public Television also specifically brings you local and regional coverage of news with LakeShore News Tonight, issues and current events programming like LakeShore Focus, and sports coverage with LakeShore Sports at the high school and collegiate level throughout the year.

Here is program just for today – this kind of lineup comes to you every day, free of charge, and is mostly supported through public and private donations. An ever decreasing amount of their support comes from the government.

Memberships can be as inexpensive as $40 per year, and they offer you:

  • Tax Deduction
  • Program Guide
  • Lakeshore Public Television Kid's Club
  • Lakeshore Public Television MemberCard
  • Lighthouse Premium Place Outlets VIP Discounts
  • Annual Appreciation Reception
  • Legacy Circle
  • and more

There are also plenty of opportunities for companies and organizations to support the programming through sponsorship programs, and a great way to help them is when they run their annual auction. They put on three signature events every year. Lakeshore Public Television is proud to host three annual signature events, Speaking of Women's Health, Lakeshore Kids Immunization Fair and the Holiday Gift Auction.

Speaking of Women's Health in May is our station's largest and most successful fundraiser. By providing accurate and up-to-date wellness information to area women, we know that both they and their families will benefit.

The Lakeshore Kids Immunization Fair is a back-to-school event that aims to help get kids ready for a new school year with free vaccinations, wellness information, food and fun!

In late fall, the shopping season kicks off with our on-air marketplace: The Holiday Gift Auction —an opportunity for local viewers to support Lakeshore Public Television in a fun and exciting way.

Editors note. In what we do every day, it is so easy to say, I am a big supporter of X, Y, or Z, because we think that non-profit, church, organization, group, cause, or person is good for the community. I found myself saying this last weekend when talking to Tom Carroll who heads up LakeShore Public Television and Radio, and a guy whom I have a lot of respect for, and have had the blessing of getting to know just a bit over the last 6 months or so. When I got into the truck to drive away from breakfast though, I said to myself “Do you really support public television”, and “if so, why the heck aren’t you a member supporting them, if it costs only 40 bucks once a year”? So I guess I have always liked what public TV has to offer myself and my family. As soon as my check gets to their office, I can actually count myself as a supporter. Hope you do the same.
