While all communities experience tragedy, the strong ones learn how to cope with grief, celebrate life, and elevate positivity. Following the passing of Toby Deweese after he collapsed at the Ideal Beach Triathlon in 2015, Ideal Beach Triathlon created the Heart of a Warrior Award to honor his memory. Ideal Beach Triathlon will partner with Surf Internet this year, as they have in years past, to present the Heart of a Warrior Award to the participant who best exemplifies what Deweese stood for: integrity, courage, and determination in the face of obstacles.
To be eligible for the award, individuals must participate in the triathlon this year and be nominated using the following link. Ideal Beach Triathlon and Surf Internet encourage the community to nominate their family and friends who are participating in the triathlon and have faced adversity in their lives or are participating in the triathlon for the first time.
Ideal Beach Triathlon and Surf Internet have worked in tandem for years, and this year, Surf Internet is not only a partner for the award but also a Bronze Sponsor for the race, which will take place on June 28 in Elkhart, Indiana. They will also have a booth at the event and present the Heart of the Warrior Award on the day of the race.
The triathlon includes a variety of challenges, including the Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon Team Relay, Kids Competitive Triathlon for kids aged 6-14, and Kids Non-Competitive Triathlon for kids aged 6-12. Organized by triMichiana and the Michiana Family Center, the event emphasizes not only fitness but also community.
