“Friends of Fishing” is excited to announce our third annual “Take a Kid Fishing” event at Rogers Lakewood Park 5320 Meridan Road in Valparaiso on Saturday June 7th. We are partnering with the Valparaiso Parks Department to provide a family friendly event that is “Free” and will be a great morning for kids and their parents(or grandparents or uncles or aunts or adult guardian or friends!)
If you pre-register for the event at the Valparaiso Parks Deparment by Friday June 6th you will receive a pass for free entrance into the park. Call 219-462-5144 to pre-register. On Saturday June 7th, the fishing will begin at 8am and continue until 12 noon. In addition to the fishing we will have other fun events for the kids. Here is our agenda:
Fishing: 8-12
DNR Program on Fish Identification with Fish Biologist-Ben Dickinson: 9-9:30
Fly Tying with Felix Duron: 9:30-10
Casting Contest with Mark Addis and Dick Gross: 10-10:30
Minnow Races with Jimmy Crown and Tim Deman: 10:30-11
Weigh in and Awards and Lunch(Hotdogs on the grill!): 12 Noon
Prizes will be given to the top three fish in 5 categories of fish: Bluegill, Crappie, Bass, Perch and Walleye. Bring your own rods and reels and bait. We will have a few loaner rods/reels for those who don’t have their own, call to reserve one. This is a “Free Fishing Weekend” in Indiana and adults and kids do not need a license for this event.
