Teachers Credit Union Employee Spotlight: Pat McGinley

For Pat McGinley, it’s never been about the reward when it comes to helping his clients or his community. It’s been about his passion to make the community better. McGinley, Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer at Teachers Credit Union (TCU), is deeply rooted in the Hoosier values of family first and helping others in their time of need. He even hit the national spotlight with his volunteerism when he carried the torch for the world’s largest sporting event: The Olympics.

McGinley has spent nearly 40 years working for local financial institutions, helping countless agriculture families. individuals and business clients.

“What I love most about my job is developing long-term relationships with families and being that trusted advisor,” McGinley said. “I’m not sure what other industry you span over four generations of a family.”

Alongside that fulfilling career, he’s made it a priority to give back to his community, through activities like coaching children, and being a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Valparaiso. One day, a co-worker noticed the number of things he was involved in and nominated him as a community hero to carry the Olympic torch for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. An essay about his accomplishments convinced the Olympic Committee to choose him for the honor.

“For me to be a little part of that, in that one moment when I ran with the Olympic flame, was a part of history,” McGinley recalled. “It was a phenomenal experience.”

Today, he serves as Board Chairman for the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer and Executive Board Member of Family & Youth Services Bureau of Porter County, Treasurer and Executive Board for Valpo Events and is involved in a number of other organizations in the Region.

“It’s important to give back and I had done so personally over the years, but now my employer is very much in favor of giving back to the communities we work and live in,” McGinley said. McGinley joined the TCU team in 2017. It was the company’s matched passion to give back that sparked his desire to join the credit union.

“It was another piece that attracted me to TCU - their desire for us, the employees and officers, to be active in the community.”
